Every screening unit has to get itself certified by the Cooperative Association of Mammography Screening before it commences any screening activities. The certification process has to ensure that adequate provision has been made for quality assurance as part of the overall screening chain.
This means that before any screening unit gets started, the Cooperative Association of Mammography Screening, on behalf of the responsible Association of Health Fund Physicians, carries out an examination of the unit – and its medical and technical staff, as well as the organisational structures – during a visit to the location.
The visit by the certification team also provides an opportunity to discuss any open questions with the lead programme radiologists and to give them any necessary advice before screening activities begin.
