Cooperative Association of the German Mammography Screening Programme

The Cooperative Association of the German Mammography Screening Programme was founded in August 2003 under the joint sponsorship of the statutory health insurance funds and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV). Its task is the coordination, quality assurance and evaluation of the mammography screening program. Five reference centers in Berlin, North (Oldenburg), Southwest (Gießen), Munich, and Münster assume the regional tasks of the cooperative association and are responsible for the continuing education of physicians and radiological specialists participating in the program.

The program for the early detection of breast cancer is aimed at over ten million women nationwide. It is carried out by physicians and radiological specialists in a total of 95 screening units. The mammography screening program is the first systematic cancer screening program according to European quality standards in Germany and the largest screening program in Europe. Regular certification of all screening units as well as a comprehensive evaluation of the program's processes and results by the Cooperative Mammography Association are designed to ensure that quality standards are met.
